Beach Boogie & Blues With DJ JimmyDavis "Tuesday 7 -9 PM" I started in music with piano and guitar at the young age of 5 years. Loving music, I was performing in my first group by the age of 13. We played local sock hops and parties during the early 60's. At age 15, I landed the guitar spot in a 9 piece horn group called the "Swinging Souls", out of Augusta GA. We played North and South Carolina throughout the 60's until Uncle Sam and the draft picked up most of the band, one at a time. Although I was totally involved in music, I did get a degree in electronics and took a job with IBM in 1969. The IBM gig lasted 30 years. Having stayed involved in music throughout my IBM career, I performed in various and varied groups to include beach music (Sands), bluegrass (Southern Land & Cattle Co.), variety (Smile) & gospel (various) throughout the 70's & 80's in addition to studying music theory at SC State University. In the early 90's, I saw a need in my area, for a high quality, reasonably priced recording studio. This was to serve the needs of the local struggling musician. Having a musical and an electronics background, I founded Signature Studios. I recorded mostly black gospel with some country and bluegrass, and had as much work as I could handle. Also during this time, I started to DJ for local parties, wedding receptions and class reunions etc. In 1999 I moved to the Lexington, Lake Murray area of SC and put up a new building for Signature Studios. I also met the "Sensational Epics", a 10 piece horn band that was getting back together with the original members. I landed the sound tech job with them. Due to the loss of their guitar played, Mr. Jimmy Anderson, a truly wonderful person, I stepped into the guitar spot where I still reside. Having DJ experience, I continued doing a lot of DJ work, mostly for the shag crowd. I have worked for clubs such as, Mallards, Legends, and now as a house DJ for PURE (Wednesday night Jimmy & Jimmy shag show). In addition, I have worked as a DJ for many private parties, weddings, singles organizations, the Shriners, plus many other special events. "I am a member of the Association of Beach and Shag Club DeeJays." Hearing about "Our Generation Radio", the radio station for the baby boomer generation, I approached DJ Rick Wrigley and the rest is what it is. I hope you enjoy my show.
